German is a fascinating language that is spoken by over 125 million people in Europe, making it Europe’s single largest language market. German is a vital language for research, technology, engineering, finance, medicine, the arts, academics, manufacturing, and international trade and diplomacy. Germany is the world’s 4th largest economy and is the largest economy within the European Union. The German connection to California spans the history of the State, and the study of German holds a rich tradition within California. Deciding to study German is an excellent choice for college and career readiness, and the German program at PHS is designed to help you succeed in developing your German fluency.
The goal of the German program at PHS is to help students achieve an appropriate level of fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Corresponding to the California State Standards for World Languages, students can achieve an intermediate to advanced level of mastery by their third year. The third year of German at PHS corresponds with the AP German test, which students are encouraged to participate in."
